GRAMSAT PILOT PROJECT-ORISSA

Objective of the project :

  1. Interactive training and skill development for field officials of Govt. of Orissa. This will also include the elected functionaries of the Panchayatiraj Institutions and the NGOs as well as the opinion leaders from the rural community.
  2. Development broadcasting to the field functionaries and the people for creating awareness about Govt. schemes and programmes towards achieving transparency and securing peoples' participation. The awareness will include environment consciousness, health and sanitation, literacy, improvement of status of women in society, child labour, education, peoples' empowerment etc.
  3. Computer connectivity will provide opportunity of data transfer between state capital, district and block. This data transfer will include spatial and nonspatial geographic information data derived from satellite remote sensing relating to natural resources and environment and can be used for watershed management, spatial planning, infrastructure development etc. A few (about 20-25) grampanchayat locations will also have computer connectivity. This computer connectivity to District/Block and selected grampanchayats is towards e-Governance i.e. a computerised management information system for effective governance.
  4. Creation of spatial digital database on land and natural resources for the whole state and integration of the same with non-spatial socio economic and amenities data.
  5. The network will be used for disaster warning and communication for relief and rescue operations in immediate post disaster situation.
